Advancing Water Resources Research and Education

The Florida Section American Water Resources Association was established in 1971 and has been incorporated as a non-profit scientific organization since 1994. Our section has been recognized by National AWRA as the Outstanding State Section ten times, including consecutive recognition in 2002 and 2003.

Our mission is to promote understanding of water resources and related issues by providing a multidisciplinary forum for information exchange, professional development and education. Our vision is to be recognized as the preeminent organization for information exchange about water resources issues.

Our first meeting in 2010 will be held in downtown Jacksonville at the prestigious River Club.  The conference facilities occupy the top two floors of the Modis building, offering stunning views of Jacksonville, the St. Johns River and a breathtaking view of the sunset.

The deadline to reserve a room at the Omni Jacksonville Hotel has been extended until this Friday, January 8, 2010. Don't miss out on the special rate of $105/day for AWRA meeting attendees.

VIRTUAL MEETING ATTENDANCE

Under the direction of incoming president, Dave Watt, we are working to provide AWRA Florida Section meeting content to participants through virtual attendance.  We encourage those of you who are unable to make the trip to Jacksonville help us test the platform by registering to attend the conference virtually. The meeting content will be delivered online with the audio portion being provided through a toll free teleconference line. You can choose the virtual registration option through online registration and on the meeting registration form available through The Watershed (available at the link above). Shayne Wood will coordinate the logistics with those who chose to register for virtual attendance.  PDH credits will be available for those who attend virtually after completion of an online survey.  We will use the survey to evaluate the success of the virtual platform and will seek your feedback on what worked well and what could be improved. For this first beta testing, registration is limited to the first twenty registrants, so if you are interested please register today!  If you have any questions about virtual attendance, contact Shayne Wood at WoodSH@cdm.com

The Florida Watershed Journal (FWJ) is an official publication of the Florida Section AWRA and the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA).  As leading professional associations in water related industries, the AWRA and the FWEA have made a commitment to keeping members and the community well informed.    The FWJ is the only publication in Florida dedicated solely to the dynamic developments in water related issues.  Authors in the FWJ are considered leaders in their fields.  In order to keep the FWJ current and vibrant, we need help from AWRA and FWEA members to identify topics of value that should be published in the FWJ.  Contact Patrick Victor (victorpr@cdm.com) or Nabil Muhaisen (nmuhaisen@sjrwmd.com) with suggestions.  To submit a paper for consideration to be published in the FWJ, submit the paper in electronic format (MS Word or PDF) to Chris Martinez (chrisjm@ufl.edu).  A stock photo of the lead or corresponding author should be included with submission.
