2013 applications are now available. Scroll to the bottom of the page for application links
The Florida Section of AWRA has a mission to support education through the Rosanne Clementi Education Program. To be eligible to receive the Storch Award and Young Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled at an accredited Florida school. Applicants may apply prior to being enrolled, but must provide proof of enrollment before the Award or Scholarship is issued. The application deadline is May 1. Past recipients listed on the applicable web page.
The J.B. Butler Grant is awarded to pre-K-12 teachers to aid in water resource education. As of this year, the Section will have given more than $41,000 in Butler Grants. This program has resulted in providing assistance to dozens of teachers and thousands of students and there has been extensive positive feedback on the educational value of these grants.
The William Storch Award is given to college or graduate students to support educational activities. Since its inception, nearly $33,000 has been awarded to students by the Florida Section through this vehicle. There are two awards available, each at $1,000.
The AWRA Board of Directors created the Sanford N. Young Scholarship in 2005 to honor the memory of Sandy Young, a long-time Board member who passed away unexpectedly in April of that year. The fund has grown very rapidly and is now an endowed fund designed to provide funding for at least one $2,000 scholarship each year. Many generous donations have been received, and donors are continuously being sought.
New for 2013: The AWRA Florida Section is offering for the first time a scholarship for Florida High School Seniors. The Florida Section will award annually a $1,000.00 scholarship to a Florida high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in academic performance and community involvement and has an intent to pursue academic studies in the water resource related fields of geology, engineering, ecology and/or marine biology at a Florida College or University. The scholarship recipient will also be awarded a student membership to the Florida Section for the following year. All applications are due by May 1. The Scholarship will be awarded upon confirmation of enrollment in a Florida college or university.
In addition to our established funds, the Florida Section has contributed a large amount of money to the National AWRA for the Richard Herbert Endowment Fund that funds two university scholarships each year. The Section's 2012 contribution has elevated the our cumulative giving total to $10,000, the largest single donor to the Richard Herbert Endowment Fund.
Get the fever. Get excited about water resource education. It is how we make our living. Participate on the Education Committee. If you do not have the time, we gladly will accept a tax-deductible donation that may help provide more microscopes and dip nets for our Florida students. Donations may be made at any time by sending to the attention of Rosanne Clementi a check made payable to the AWRA, Florida Section. For your convenience, you may also make a donation when you register for meetings. See the meeting registration form for details. If you have any questions or need additional information, please Contact Rosanne Clementi at rosanne@clementi-ec.com
