William V. Storch Student Award
The Florida Section of the American Water Resources Association is offering a studend award of $1000.00 each to two university students. The selection criteria for an undergraduate student will be based on academic performance. Measures of academic performance include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student’s curriculum to water resources and leadership in extracurricular activities related to water resources. The criteria for a graduate student will be based on academic and/or research performance. The measures of academic performance will be identical to those described for the undergraduate criteria with the addition of the quality of the student’s research and its relevance to water resources. Awards will be granted annually in August. Applicants should prepare a title page and two-page summary of their academic interests and achievements, extracurricular interests and career goals as they relate to the above selection criteria. The application must also include a letter of reference, preferably from a professor or advisor, a transcript of all college courses and the applicant’s full name, permanent mailing address, email address, and a reliable phone number. 2011 William V. Storch Student Award Recipients
The Board awarded the William V. Storch Student Award to undergraduate student Gonzalo Moretta from Hillsborough Community College. Mr. Moretta is studying aquaculture production and research. Mr. Moretta also is interning at a local middle school at an aquaculture lab.
The Board awarded the William V. Storch Student Award to graduate student Yogesh P. Khare from the University of Florida. Mr. Khare is a PhD student in agriculture and biological engineering. Mr. Khare has been studying the impacts of land use changes on water quality in the Tampa Bay region watershed. Mr. Khare is involved also in Global Sensitivity Analysis or ARID and documentation of Watershed Assessment Model. Mr. Khare also volunteers with a professor on sediment transport research.
2010 William V. Storch Student Award Winner Scott Simpson writes:
I am writing to you today to convey my warmest and most sincere appreciation for the scholarship you have awarded me. It is an honor to receive this important distinction which will serve to further motivate me in the pursuit of new ways to consere our precious water resources.
In the decades to come, humanity as a whole will be facing an increasing urgency to discover alternatives to our current water use habits. It will be my mission in business to convey the importance of these truths to my clients and promote the many facets of landscape management practices that can contribute to this important cause.

Mr. Scott Simpson is a graduate student from the University of Florida, Apopka campus. Mr. Simpson is in the Environmental Horticulture program. He is maintaining his own landscaping company while attending school and working part-time for a professor.
